A limestone fragment carved in relief with red and black painted hieroglyphs.

Background: The Egyptian's were one of the first cultures to form a written language. The Egyptians believed their writings would come alive. Their writings tell us about their daily lives and their beliefs. This form of wall relief may have been used in a tomb explaining to the gods of their story for passage into the next world. It could also have been on a temple wall talking about a ritual, event or even one's claimed importance.

Dimensions: Width: 16.1 x 11.8 cms.

Condition: Repaired as seen on pictures in the middle.

Provenance: Private Collection, Denmark, Hans Moller Hansen. Hansen acquired many stunning Egyptian antiquities during his visit to Egypt in the late 1920's. After his parting in 1958, many of the items in his collection was passed down to his daughter and then to her son. Many of the items in this collection have been treasured by the family for over 90 years. It is with great honour Pegasus Gallery Antiquities offers these for sale to the market
