A colourful Pottery Jar fragment depicting the God Bes from the site the Bahariya Oasis.

Bes was a very diversely used deity used mainly as a protector of households and in particular childbirth. Bestsellers late became associated as defender of all that was good and energy of everything bad. He was commonly referred to as 'Aha' meaning fighter. 

Fragment, good colour remaining. Repaired from 3 sections.

Size: 86mm H x 59mm W.

Greco-Roman Period 332BC - 32BC.

Ex. Private Collection, Kensington, London, Acquired during 1920's. Displayed in Kensington home for nearly a century.
