Egyptian Faience Taweret Amulet

Pegasus Gallery Antiquities


A rather beautifully detailed green glazed amulet in the form of the hippopotamus deity Taweret; protector of childbirth and pregnancy. Taweret is wearing the symbolic sun disc. Her hands poised at her side, hanging by her swollen belly; a prominent head-dress. Standing on a small plinth. 

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period 664 - 32 BC.

Size: 4.3 x 0.8 cms.

Condition: Chip to the plinth. Otherwise in good condition.

Provenance: Ex. Private Collection, V. Clegg, Weston, Somerset, acquired between 2015 - 2017.
