Roman cockerel oil lamp circa 2nd century AD. Here we have a red slip pottery oil lamp decorated with a moulded figure of a cockerel on the tondo. The base is stamped with the makers mark. This item shows extensive damage and repair to the lower part of the nozzle. However, an oil lamp of this age which is signed on the base by the maker as well as a clear depiction of a cockerel. Also from a very interesting old collection with a very good Irish clan provenance.
